Running burns approximately 50 percent more calories per mile than burned by walking. It's a low cost, easy to do exercise that can usually be done year round and running calories burned will show a quicker result for a certain amount of time spent than by walking for the same amount of time.
If you enjoy a run as part of your fitness routine, you'll see quicker weight loss for a given time than by walking but if you hate to run, by all means walk. You'll just need to spend more time exercising.
